Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 02:27:37 GMT

WASHINGTON (AP) — Dean Kremer gave the Baltimore Orioles an excellent start on a night when nothing less would suffice.Kremer pitched impressively into the seventh inning and Austin Hays singled home the game’s only run in the fourth to lift the Orioles to a 1-0 win over the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night. It was a quiet game for a Baltimore offense that has carried the team at times early this season, but Kremer and the bullpen picked up the slack.“Our offense has been doing an amazing job scoring runs,” manager Brandon Hyde said. “We haven’t played many 1-0 ballgames, and sometimes you have to win that way.”Kremer (1-0) worked out of a second-and-third, nobody-out jam in the third, and that was as close as the Nationals came to scoring on the right-hander. He allowed only four hits in 6 2/3 innings, striking out six without a walk.Danny Coulombe got the final out of the seventh, Yennier Cano breezed through the eighth and Félix Bautista pitched the ninth for his...

The southern appendage of Hudson Bay, James Bay – Weeneebeg (Western Cree)/Wiiniibek (Eastern Cree) – spans about 160 kilometres between Northern Québec and Ontario, with the provincial border at the bottom of the bay. First Nations communities spanning the coast and its many branching rivers, long functioned as trade posts for the Hudson’s Bay Company, including Fort Rupert, Québec (Eastern Cree, Eeyou territory), and Moose Factory Island and Fort Albany, Ontario (Western Cree, Mushkegowuk territory). The largest and most urban settlement in this region is the town of Moosonee, Ontario, on the mainland about five kilometres across the Moose River from Moose Factory Island. While Moosonee is formally recognized as a municipality in the Province of Ontario rather than a First Nation, its population of approximately 3,500 residents is predominantly – about 70% – of Cree lineage. Moosonee is notably the northern terminus of the Ontario Northland Railway and a deep sea port for the tran...

BOSTON (AP) — Alex Verdugo singled home the winning run with two outs in the 10th inning on a fly ball that barely stayed fair at Fenway Park, giving the Boston Red Sox a 5-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins in a bizarre finish Tuesday night.Umpires needed a few minutes to review Verdugo’s drive, which bounced off the low wall in right field just short of Pesky’s Pole, before officially declaring it a hit and the game over. That sparked a second round of celebrating by the Red Sox, who got 11 strikeouts from starter Chris Sale but little offense until the end.Reese McGuire had just tied it with a two-run single as the Red Sox rallied after allowing two runs in the top of the 10th. McGuire entered as a pinch hitter in the eighth and reached on a key defensive error when Christian Vázquez was called for catcher’s interference. The play helped Boston score once in the eighth and eventually force the extra inning, which featured more offense than the previous nine comb...

Sale struck out 11 Minnesota Twins batters, including six in the first two innings alone, and allowed only one run over six strong innings of work. The Red Sox went on to win 5-4 in the 10th inning, with Alex Verdugo capping off a wild sequence with a walk-off single off the wall below Pesky’s Pole, which barely stayed fair and left the players and crowd hanging before the call was upheld on review.Even though he didn’t wind up factoring into the decision, Sale’s performance was an encouraging development for the Red Sox.“There are no words,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said of Sale’s performance. “It was great, that’s a good lineup and he was under control, fastball played tonight and after that he just...
