VIDEO: Rare sighting of whale without a tail breaching

NEWPORT, Calif. (KSWB) -- A migrating gray whale that appeared to be missing its tail was spotted off the Southern California coast.Drone footage captured by Newport Coastal Adventure last month shows the marine mammal breaching near Newport Beach. As seen in the video, the whale's fluke, or tail fin, looks to be completely missing. Adult gray whales typically have tail flukes that are nearly 10 feet wide, according to NOAA Fisheries."This is definitely a 'miracle whale' since, despite completely missing its tail, it’s still persevering and continuing to make such an epic 12,000-mile roundtrip migration from their feeding grounds in Alaska to the breeding grounds in Mexico and back," said Jessica Roame, the Education Programs Manager for Newport Landing and Davey’s Locker Whale Watching. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Some of country music's biggest names were in Austin over the weekend for the 2023 CMT Music Awards. The award ceremony was held in Austin for the first time ever on Sunday at the Moody Center. Kane Brown and Kelsea Ballerini co-hosted the show and performed. UPDATE: Lynnette Martinez was found in the Austin area and is with authorities, her mother shared on Facebook Sunday afternoon. Rosie Galvan, Lynette's mother confirmed with KTSM Sunday, stating that Lynette is safe but has not spoken to her. Heavy snow caused a “fatal rip” in the Irish Sports Dome in Rosemount over the weekend, causing it to collapse, officials said.Dome staff sent an email to officials with the Rosemount Area Athletic Association informing them of the rip and said the dome would be unavailable for use this week.“Repair to the dome is taking place this week,” a message posted on the dome’s website states.“Once the dome is inflated, we will assess the interior and determine a re-opening date. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A new initiative has been announced to help police and prosecutors in five jurisdictions solve non-fatal shootings, and prevent gun violence.
