More than 4 million student loan borrowers are enrolled in the Biden Administration’s new income-driven repayment plan, including nearly 332,000 borrowers in California.“We’re not just lowering payments for today’s borrowers,” said Education Department Under Secretary James Kvaal. “We’re making paying for college more affordable for millions of future students.”The repayment plan came after President Biden’s student loan forgiveness program was struck down by the Supreme Court earlier this summer, a move that blocked millions of borrowers from receiving up to $20,000 in federal student debt relief nationwide. But unlike the earlier initiative, this repayment program — the Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) Plan — doesn’t immediately forgive debt. Instead, it drives down monthly repayments based on a borrower’s income, and provides a pathway to eventual loan forgiveness for those with low student debt balances.“We’re highly confident that this plan is legally authorized...

SAO PAULO (AP) — Brazil is about to start its sixth attempt to add a sixth star to its famous soccer shirt. The vibe is very different from the start of its past five South American World Cup qualifying campaigns, though, because the Selecao is rebuilding with an interim coach, its star player not based in Europe and promising young players are either struggling for form or injured. New coach Fernando Diniz, Al-Hilal striker Neymar and low scoring Richarlison represent the different faces of Brazil’s uncertainty at the beginning of the road leading to the 2026 World Cup. And this time the Selecao will be under more pressure because its archrival, Argentina, is the World Cup champion. Diniz, a coach without a lot of silverware but with a lot of attacking style, will start his interim tenure Friday in the Amazon city of Belem against Bolivia. He is not expected to keep the position for long. The Fluminense coach, who has not left his club, is regarded as a caretaker until Carlo Ancelo...
