Third ballot for House speaker: These are the 25 Republicans who voted against Jim Jordan

Published Thu, 06 Mar 2025 04:01:59 GMT

Republican Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio has failed to clinch the House speakership in three rounds of voting, and the gap is growing wider. On Friday, 25 Republicans voted against his candidacy – far more than the handful he could afford to lose given the party’s narrow majority in Congress. A speaker needs a majority of the full House to be elected. On Tuesday, 20 Republicans chose a candidate other than Jordan, and on Wednesday the number rose to 22.Three members who had voted for Jordan in the first two rounds switched on Friday:  Marc Molinaro, of New York; Tom Kean, of New Jersey; and Brian Fitzpatrick, of Pennsylvania.Eleven of California’s 12 Republican congressmembers voted for Jordan on all three ballots. The exception, Doug LaMalfa, voted for former Speaker Kevin McCarthy on the first ballot and Jordan on the second and third.Besides ousted speaker Kevin McCarthy, another of the California delegation got a vote: Mike Garcia, from Santa Clarita, was chosen on all three ballo...

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland both deserve to win this year’s Ballon d’Or award for the world’s best soccer player. Messi, a seven-time winner of the sport’s biggest individual honor, fulfilled his life’s ambition by leading Argentina to victory at last year’s World Cup.
