This year’s patio guide contains nine newly minted outdoor spaces that we visited over the year, and three coming soon that we can’t wait to get to.Dicey weather — namely a late, wet spring — has kept more than a few patios closed until very recently, so I’m sure we’ll hear about more openings in the coming weeks. We also want to encourage you to be patient as restaurants staff up for the season, especially outdoors. In some cases, menus and hours might be limited, and staffing shortages mean you might be waiting a little longer (hopefully in the sunshine!) for your food or drinks.RELATED: Here are readers’ 2023 picks for best patioWe’ve broken the list into helpful categories you can sample all summer long:New kids on the blockNeighborhoodSee and be seenAlong the water/scenicBreweries, distilleries and wineriesComing soonNew kids on the blockThe entire restaurant Blondette, on the 5th floor of the Rand Tower in Minneapolis, is essentially a patio. Mental Health Week shines a light on 'communities'

Ask Amy: She used to be an awesome friend. Now she’s trying to make us feel guilty.

Dear Amy: My husband and I stumbled into an awesome friendship last year around the holidays, when we met “Chelsea.” (We are all middle-aged.)As the friendship progressed we traded gifts or small favors. Then we came to learn that Chelsea is still living at home with her aging parents, and while she works full time, she is always broke. She asked to send her Amazon packages to our home (claiming she lives in a high-traffic area and doesn’t want them stolen), but we were uncomfortable after she did this more than once. We believe it’s largely due to trying to hide her purchases from her parents, as she obviously has out-of-control spending that led to her living with them in the first place.Recently her mother became ill, resulting in a lengthy hospital stay. Chelsea missed work.We were kind enough to wire funds to her for extra food or incidentals but then I saw her posting on Facebook about how broke she is and how she never gets the help she needs when she asks for it. Harriette Cole: How do I discourage my friend from having frivolous surgery?

DEAR HARRIETTE: My best friend wants to get a Brazilian butt lift. It seems like everybody is doing it these days.I did some research and saw that it’s basically a form of liposuction. A lot of people get it, but it worries me.First of all, there’s nothing wrong with her body. More than that, it is actual surgery. My friend has a number of health issues. I just think it’s irresponsible for her to do elective surgery when there could be complications. She’s considering going out of the country to do it, too, so that it can be more affordable.Related ArticlesAdvice | Harriette Cole: I just learned how she betrayed me.
