SAN DIEGO — If the Nuggets’ starters stay healthy, the same quintet that won Denver its first NBA championship this summer will be difficult to bet against in 2023-24.But two days into training camp, the first small reminder arrived of how fragile this all can be. Michael Porter Jr. suffered a sprained ankle Wednesday and is unlikely to play Friday when the Nuggets hope to hold a full 48-minute scrimmage at their final San Diego practice. Porter didn’t participate in live action during Thursday’s practice. He generally plays with a brace on his left leg, a byproduct of three back surgeries dating back to 2017.The injury isn’t particularly serious, but between Porter’s injury history and the short offseason Denver is returning from, coach Michael Malone chose to give all his starters a break from live basketball Thursday. He also canceled the Nuggets’ evening shooting session.“Third practice in a row; want to kind of be mindful of their bodie...CSU set to begin conference play with offensive stars shining

Colorado State will be the last Mountain West team to begin conference play when the Rams travel to Logan, Utah on Saturday to face Utah State.Coming off back-to-back wins over Middle Tennessee and Utah Tech, the Rams have both confidence and momentum heading into their eight-week league slate, mostly thanks to an offense finally hitting its stride.Case in point, the Rams’ passing game is one of the best in the nation, with quarterback Brandon Fowler-Nicolosi, receiver Tory Horton and tight end Dallin Holker among the national statistical leaders in several categories.“We just have some players that are special and when they get their hands on the ball, good things happen,” CSU head coach Jay Norvell said. “So, we’ve just got to continue to put the ball in their hands and let them make plays and do what they do. I think Brayden has a lot of confidence in those guys, but we can certainly grow. We’re still not really scratching the surface of what we are capable of as a team.”Since ta...SoCal woman guilty of $359 million fraud targeting federal healthcare program

Puffcon was an absolute smash this year. Even the line was crazy. It wrapped from the corner of South Bixel and West Maryland all the way around the block to Sixth Street and South Beaudry. You could see tons of little clouds that lined the block as the 6,000 hash enthusiasts in attendance last Saturday waited, not too long, to join in on the festivities. Once you made it through the gates, you were greeted with a few hundred yards of some of the best companies in the game. The 40 exhibitors came in the best form. Many had special offerings they’d been planning for months, be it merchandise, hash or flower. But hopefully you got there early! A lot of the biggest names sold out of everything.Kevin Chapman, Puffco’s director of events, was obviously thrilled for arguably their biggest and best event yet. “I’m so proud of the community coming together to celebrate the plant at Puffcon 2023,” Chapman told L.A. Weekly. “Attendees started lining up at 7 a.m., to get in the doo...U.S. Sen. Feinstein remembered as “American hero” during memorial at San Francisco City Hall

SAN FRANCISCO — At the memorial service for the late U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein held on the steps of City Hall — where tragedy propelled her into the national spotlight four decades ago — she was heralded by President Biden as an “American hero,” by Vice President Kamala Harris as “an icon of California,” and by former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi as San Francisco’s “forever mayor.”Perhaps most poignant of all during the ceremony Thursday were the remarks of Feinstein’s granddaughter, Eileen Mariano, who recounted a family story that on the day she was born, her grandmother bragged she looked just like her. Now, Mariano, who retains the resemblance, is making a career for herself working for San Francisco Mayor London Breed.“She showed young women everywhere that they can be leaders,” she said, “they can make an impact, and they deserve a seat at the table.”San Francisco Mayor London Breed, left, Vice President Kamala Harris, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schum...AP Week in Pictures: Global | Sept. 29-Oct. 5, 2023
